LONDON 15th November 2022
Hans Airways today announces the successful completion of a new round of financing which will enable it to progress plans to commence scheduled air services between Birmingham and Amritsar in India - and satisfy existing financial obligations.
Hans Airways has satisfied the Civil Aviation Authority's requirements for an Air Operator’s Certificate. The secured new investment will take the airline to the next stage toward satisfying the CAA of its financial viability and subsequent operating licence to provide revenue air services.
Aligned to the new investment is a management restructure. COO Nathan Burkitt takes on the role of CEO from Satnam Saini, who continues with the airline as a Board director. Dr Barry Humphreys assumes the role of interim Chairman, succeeding Ruchir Verma.
The airline's Board now comprises: Dr Barry Humphreys, Jane Middleton, Dr Peter Malanik, Kirpal Jass, Indervir Jass, Satnam Singh Saini, Nathan Burkitt and Sulagna Roy as Company Secretary.
“Establishing a new airline is never straight-forward and there will inevitably be hurdles along the way. Hans Airways is now well positioned to move forward. With growing evidence of strong demand for additional air services between the UK and India, supplemented by charter opportunities, we have every expectation of being able to launch,” commented Hans Airways Chair Dr Barry Humphreys
“I am entrusting Nathan and his fine team to deliver my vision for Hans Airways. It has been a long journey and I look forward to continue supporting as Board director,” said Satnam Saini.
Ali Legal, a London City based corporate law firm acted for the investors. Their team was led by Managing Partner and Corporate Lawyer Akbar Ali.

Hans Airways is pleased to confirm it performed its formal route proving flight for the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday, 31 August, aboard its newly re-registered Airbus A330-200, G-KJAS. Two sets of flight and cabin crew, led by COO Captain Nathan Burkitt and Neeru Prabhakar, Manager - Cabin Safety and Service, operated the flight, whilst Simon Prower, Director of Ground Operations, focused on dispatch and logistics, with ground handling managed by Swissport.
With over 100 guests on board, flight time was a little over two hours, flying along the west coast towards the North Atlantic and back to Birmingham Airport.
Click here for footage of the proving flight take-off
The previous day, 30 August, CEO and founder of Hans Airways, Satnam Saini proudly welcomed 55 guests made up of family, friends and airline partners, for a familiarisation test flight replicating a full-service offering. The A330, still a white aircraft, took off from Birmingham and made landings at Glasgow Prestwick, Doncaster, and then back to Prestwick, before returning to Birmingham Airport.
“It is my honour and privilege to take the controls on our first A330 flight,” exclaimed COO and Captain Nathan Burkitt. On the first leg, to Prestwick, he was joined by Senior Captain Graham Ness (ex Oman Air, easyJet) - one of the first pilots to join the company.
Satnam Saini thanked STS Aviation Services at Birmingham Airport for working swiftly and enthusiastically over weekends to ready the aircraft for first flight – and praised all his team – who have, collectively, “contributed so much to making this day happen, a culmination of four years’ planning and shaping.“
The route proving flight for the CAA is the penultimate regulatory milestone in being able to start commercial revenue operations. On the award of its UK Air Operator’s Certificate, Hans Airways will apply to India’s equivalent regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for its licence to fly from India.
It has ambitions to be the UK’s now third long-haul scheduled carrier, operating a hybrid, affordable, full-service model.
Hans Airways, with its community airline mission, intends to make Amritsar in Northern India its first destination from Birmingham Airport, and expects to be able to start flying in October (subject to licence approval).
“This week was a very significant one in the Hans Airways’ journey,” commented Chief Commercial Officer Martin Dunn, adding, “we are now really looking forward to pro-active engagement with the travel trade community.”
The company is currently recruiting and looking to add 20 more cabin crew from its Birmingham, UK base.

LONDON 4th August 2022
Hans Airways, the UK’s new long-haul airline readying to fly to India, celebrated the arrival of its first Airbus A330-200 on UK soil this week. The aircraft touched down from Palma Airport, Mallorca to Birmingham International Airport, welcomed by CEO Satnam Saini, COO Nathan Burkitt and CCO Martin Dunn for Hans Airways, ahead of formal technical handover and technical acceptance signing with the lessor.
Hans Airways has partnered with maintenance and repair overhaul specialist STS Aviation Services for Re-Registration tasks and Entry into service modifications ahead of its important route-proving flight for the UK Civil Aviation Authority in the coming weeks. The A330 will fly as newly re-registered G-KJAS.
Since 2020, Hans Airways has maintained a close dialogue with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on its progress. Prior to arriving in Palma, the aircraft underwent a thorough 200-hour inspection in Abu Dhabi (UAE) by Etihad Engineering (work previously contracted by its former airline operator, Air Europa). The aircraft was required to return to Spain, its original country of registration for final contractual, administration, financial transfer and customs clearance. In Palma work included a final internal inspection of the engines and rectification of any defect identified on the airworthiness and positioning flight.
“Our first widebody Airbus arriving into the UK is a big and significant milestone on Hans Airways’ journey to launch,” said CEO Satnam Saini. These past 12 months we are very pleased to have added a wealth of competence and experience to our leadership and management team and recruited and trained up a full complement of exceptional pilots and cabin crew who will be ready to fly as soon as the airline’s AOC is awarded.
"We are delighted STS has been selected as a long-term key maintenance supplier to support Hans Airways’ Airbus A330,” stated Colby Payne, Head of Sales for STS. “As a result of this partnership, we have accepted the first aircraft for a maintenance visit at our state of the art, wide-body aircraft MRO facility in Birmingham and look forward to supporting Hans Airways with further projects as its growth continues.”
Once it has its AOC, together with similar accreditation from India’s DGCA, Hans Airways is planning an initial four times weekly service from Birmingham to Amritsar in North India. Amritsar is a major commercial and cultural centre in the heart of Punjab. The city is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion and home to the Harmandir Sahib, famously known as the Golden Temple.
As Hans Airways finalises slots and timetable, it plans to operate ACMI / charter services, which will help with crew training ahead of the scheduled service operation, Satnam Saini said.

Hans Airways, the new UK airline which is gearing up to start scheduled services from Birmingham to India this year is pleased to confirm the promotion of Martin Dunn to Chief Commercial Officer. Martin joined the business in November 2021 as Director Sales and Distribution from Etihad Airways, where he led commercial teams focused on pricing, revenue and route management for the Abu Dhabi-based carrier and its airline brands.
At Hans Airways Martin is working closely with CEO Satnam Saini in the executive leadership team and is responsible for overall sales, distribution, marketing, brand and product, e-commerce and digital retail functions, as the airline heads towards launch later this summer.
Martin brings a solid four decades’ airline experience in the UK and Middle East, having started his aviation career via the travel agency route. His first airline job was with British Midland in sales, where he was responsible for developing pricing strategy, and establishing the distribution process. He was closely involved in the regional carrier’s move into Star Alliance, working alongside counterparts in Lufthansa, SAS and United Airlines.
After 16 years in Derbyshire, Martin moved to the Middle East, initially working with Gulf Air in Bahrain, heading commercial route management and supervising country sales teams, before joining Etihad in 2007, initially as head of commercial route management, then head of strategic pricing, interline and digital retail.
“Martin’s experience in airline pricing and revenue management, plus his ability to lead and inspire teams was highly attractive to the Hans Airways’ Board as we determined an ideal commercial leader. Together with his extensive international airline experience and vast industry contacts, he is proving to be a terrific asset,” said Satnam.
“I have held many roles in the airline industry but the opportunity to be part of a start-up airline is very exciting,” said Martin. “I met Satnam and quickly embraced his vision
and mission for Hans Airways – to build a community airline for the people, by the people, while giving back to good causes.”
“After months working mainly by video calls it is great to be be able to get out and meet face-to-face again. I’ll be drawing on my extensive experience to help develop an airline and product that customers want to experience - at a price they can afford. We look forward to welcoming our first customers on-board soon.”

LONDON 30 March 2022
Hans Airways, the new British long-haul airline, has achieved some significant milestones, taking it closer to realising its plan to start commercial operations in early summer. CEO and founder Satnam Saini is extremely encouraged that India re-opened to international scheduled flights last weekend. (March 26).
Last week the company formally confirmed its January 2022 Letter of Intent for its first Airbus A330-200 (MSN 950) with a committed contract. The aircraft is now in Abu Dhabi where it is undergoing maintenance checks with Etihad Engineering, overseen by a Hans Airways liaison engineer.
Cabin crew training underway
Twelve newly recruited cabin crew members start their training at Birmingham and Manchester next week, engaged through the Resource Group and Neeru Prabhakar, former cabin service director/trainer/recruitment at British Airways for 30 years, joined Hans Airways last month.
This follows the completion of pilot training at the end of January - specifically ground school at IAGO Flight Training, Crawley and simulator training at L3 Harris. Hans Airways is proud to have employed some exceptional commercial pilots, who have garnered experience with a variety of low-cost, legacy and regional airlines.
“With the loss of flights operated by India's Jet Airways and British inclusive tour operators Thomas Cook and Monarch Airlines, there is room for a third UK airline flying between UK and India (complementing British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.) All of us are working exceptionally hard and on schedule to be that third UK designated carrier,” commented Barry Humphries, CBE, Hans Airways’ Board Director and former head of air services policy at the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

LONDON 23 August 2021 - Delivering on its promise to sign agreements with well-recognised third-party suppliers, Hans Airways will enter into a partnership with Resource Group as the UK start-up airline begins to hire Captains and First Officers for its A330 fleet, allowing it to continue to make progress towards gaining its Air Operator Certificate.
Hans Airways has begun to hire its first flight crew in readiness for the start of operations in late-2021. It will work in partnership with Resource Group to fill these roles as it continues to advance towards obtaining its Air Operator Certificate from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
Hans Airways has entered into a partnership with Swiss company Resource Group, allowing the UK-based start-up airline to commence the recruitment process for the flight crews it needs to continue along the path towards gaining its UK Air Operator Certificate (AOC) later this year. Using its UK subsidiary ContractAir, Resource Group will work alongside Hans Airways in hiring the Captains, First Officers and Training Captains required to fly its planned fleet of A330-200s.
“This recruitment agreement is a well-timed development as we prepare to launch our direct non-stop flights to India later in 2021,” says Nathan Burkitt, Director Flight Operations and Crew Training at Hans Airways. “It will allow the leadership team to focus on our launch preparations while at the same time filling the essential flight crew roles that we need. Resource Group brings decades of invaluable experience in this field, having worked with the likes of British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and easyJet, to name but a few of their other airline partners.”
The alliance with Resource Group follows swiftly after Hans Airways signed an agreement with cargo General Sales and Service Agent Air Logistics Group in July. “Our intention from the beginning has been to work with industry-leading partners, like Resource Group, who are recognised as best in class at what they do. This strategy will continue as we move closer to launch,” adds Burkitt.
“We welcome Hans Airways to our ever-expanding portfolio of airline partners and we look forward to helping them on their start-up journey,” comments Robin Hepworth, Business Manager at Resource Group. “We have been serving the recruitment and resourcing needs of the aviation and aerospace sector for more than 40 years and we are confident of maintaining a strong relationship with Hans Airways as its network expands.”
While progress is clearly being made in terms of Hans Airways’ recruitment needs, the airline, which has had its application for its operating and route licences to serve India published by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, is continuing to make advances with regards to securing its AOC. “We are getting ready for our proving flight in October as part of the process to obtain Hans Airways’ AOC,” explains Burkitt. “We have determined a planned launch date internally, and we will make an announcement once all regulatory requirements are complete.”
